History of beginning

In the early 1900s, a young piano tuner would be called to a house to tune or mend a piano but instead of leaving when the job was done, he always ended up playing the instrument for hours, while members of the household gathered around and listened in admiration.

Consumed by his love for music, he named one of his children Mozart, after one of the greatest composers in history, and just like his namesake, Mozart showed a natural talent for music at an early age and easily mastered the piano and the violin.

In 1948, Mozart and his brothers started working for their father who had just opened a piano store in Beirut. The store was a great success and soon had branches in Syria and Iraq.

After years of expertise in the piano business, Mozart developed an interest in more modern instruments and in 1966, he opened his own store for musical instrument trading and LP production in Beirut, which he named after himself: Mozart Chahine.

Mozart started touring the world, attending internationally renowned music trade fairs, such as Musikmesse in Frankfurt, to learn about modern instruments as well as new trends and the latest technologies in music and bringing them to Lebanon, becoming a pioneer in introducing modern musical instruments to the Lebanese culture.

In 1973, Mozart Chahine opened a retail store in Abdel Wahab El Inglizi Street in Ashrafieh, one of Beirut’s trendiest streets at the time. With the desire to widen his variety of instruments and brands, Mozart forged a solid relationship with internationally renowned suppliers starting with Hoshino Gakki, a leading musical instrument manufacturer in the world and supplier of premium quality brands like Ibanez and Tama. Soon after, Mozart Chahine found himself adding more and more international brands such as Marshall, Hofner, Petrof, Bentley, Sonor, Sure, Farfisa, Elgam,  and Premier Percussions.

Later adding music accessories to its booming list of products, the store turned into a comprehensive shop catering to all regions in Lebanon, distributing products to selected wholesale stores in major Lebanese cities and selling oriental musical instruments to the world, mainly to the US, Australia, and Switzerland. Mozart Chahine became one of the biggest names in the musical industry in Lebanon and the go-to place for all serious musicians looking for a peerless instrument worthy of accompanying them in their musical journey.

Passing the torch

In 1997, Mozart Chahine passed the torch to his son Naji, a visionary who took over the store and, by marching to the beat of his own drum, transformed it into a musical institution with no equal in the Arab world.

Naji Chahine’s vision was to turn the store into a full-fledged one-stop-shop that offers a multitude of services and caters to all musicians’ needs, from purchasing, maintaining and upgrading an instrument all the way to learning and mastering it.

In 2004, a new retail store of Mozart Chahine opened in Jal El Dib, redefining the purpose of the store by adding a spare parts division, after sales services and music repair shops, in addition to housing the first School of Music in 2005.

The Jal El Dib branch became a flagship after which all the Mozart Chahine stores will come to be modelled.

The School of Music was an official private school that adopted a modern method of teaching which requires the teacher to have pedagogy training, be interactive and make learning fun. The courses included modern, oriental and classical music programs for all ages, starting from 7 month old with the Little Maestros program, drama, painting and gymnastics for kids. The school also had a successful program for special needs students of all ages. The classrooms are soundproof and fully equipped with the latest premium quality instruments which are well-maintained and constantly upgraded. The school also provided a platform for its students to showcase their talent through concerts and live performances. The School of Music had over 1000 students today and is currently closed until further notice.
